Morristown is the county seat of Hamblen County and since the middle of the 20th century the community evolved from an agricultural based economy to a manufacturing based economy, producing such a wide range of products as textiles and furniture to automotive parts and high tech plastics. The area was first settled in the late 1700's by settlers of Scotch-Irish and German descent who moved into the region from Virginia, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.
Morristown is the gateway to Cherokee Lake, Clinch Mountain Range and the Tennessee Wilderness Road, all nestled along the 25E East Tennessee Crossing Scenic Byway.
Named for the Native American tribe that once lived in the area Cherokee Lake covers 30,300 acres at full pool, is 59 miles long, and has 463 miles of shoreline attracting more than 2.5 million visitors annually.
Hamblen County offers a variety of other outdoor recreational opportunities as well, including Panther Creek State Park Campgrounds, Norris Blackburn Trail, Deer Run Bike Trail, and many others.
