Named for Alexander Hamilton, Hamilton County is in southeastern Tennessee. Its county seat is Chattanooga.
Historic Lookout Mountain is home to several world-famous attractions like Rock City (in Georgia), Ruby Falls, the Incline Railway and Point Park. Next to Point Park, you'll find the Battles for Chattanooga Electric Map & Museum which depicts the battles in the Campaign for Chattanooga. Around the base of the mountain is the Chattanooga Nature Center and Reflection Riding Arboretum & Botanical Garden. Lookout Mountain Flight Park gives visitors the chance hang glide over the top of the mountain, soaring over the incredible scenery of the Chattanooga Valley.
Raccoon Mountain Caverns is a show cave located 8 miles northwest of downtown Chattanooga. Originally explored in 1929 its explored length is over 5.5 miles. Ruby Falls Cave is a show cave located on the side of Lookout Mountain in downtown Chattanooga. The cave developer named the new cave's waterfall after his wife Ruby, hence the name Ruby Falls. The lower cave, Lookout Mountain Cave, opened to the public on December 30, 1929. Ruby Falls opened to the public on June 16, 1930. Ruby Falls Cave, with its spectacular waterfall proved the more popular of the two caves and it is the only one open to the public at the present time.
You can also take a wild ride down the roaring whitewater rapids of the Ocoee River. Or if the thundering roar of the rapids isn't your style, try a more relaxing and leisurely ride down a stream in a canoe.
