Sequatchie is one of three counties (along with Bledsoe and Marion) situated in the Sequatchie Valley, a long, narrow valley running northeast-to-southwest across the eastern portion of the Cumberland Plateau. The county is flanked by the Plateau's Walden Ridge escarpment on the east. The Sequatchie River, which spans the valley, passes through the county. The county seat is Dunlap.
The natural beauty of this area has been the home of the Cherokee, the pioneer and the coal miner. Sequatchie County and the City of Dunlap provide a wealth of
opportunities for visitors and residents. Explore the historic coke
ovens and learn about coal mining in the region, or get a birds-eye
view riding the air currents in a hang glider. Dunlap is known as the "Hang-gliding Capital of the East". Downtown Dunlap features
antique and gift shops, as well as first class dining. Residents enjoy
good schools, low utilities, quality healthcare and recreational activities.
