West Tennessee is located within the the Mississippi Embayment, part of the Gulf Coastal Plain. Because of this, the terrain is flatter than the eastern parts of the state. Areas right along the Mississippi River are located within the alluvial floodplain. Because of this most of the land in West Tennessee is used as farmland. Major cities include Memphis, the "Home of the Blues and the Birthplace of Rock 'n' Roll", Jackson, and Bartlett.
